My Mac OS X 10.5.8 hard drive failed and cascaded onto the Hitachi hard drive, how can I recover my photos?
We took the hard drive to the Apple store and the Apple genius said, "it's is not a virus or a worm, sometimes this just happens". They took the drive and kept it for over a week and were unable to restore anything. We bought a new hard drive and it's like having an empty sketch book.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to restore Aperture and iPhoto on my old hard drive so I can salvage my library of images from the past 3 1/2 years. This is a difficult loss for me. Several years ago I lost several large paintings that were stored in a basement that flooded.
Thank you,
Peace and happy holidays,
Ronnie Ginnever

BUMMER!
It says on your profile that you're a JPG+ member which is awesome and means that you can download all your photos from your JPG library. There is a download link on the top right of the photo page and under your avatar/name. Good luck.

goto newegg.com and purchase a: sata to usb cable. they cost $20 and are well worth it as every hard drive will fail eventually. once you have it use it to connect the failed drive to another computer and it should work just like an external hard drive.

I am a little confused.
Do you have 2 drives .
An internal computer drive and an external Hitachi drive.
Did the internal drive crash an now the external cannot be read?
Use Data Rescue 3 http://www.prosofteng.com/ to access those files.
Disc utility /under the menu bar/Go/Utilities/Disc utility/
can mount or repair hard drives.
if you cannot see the external-Try it on another computer .
Or alternatively unplug the drive disconnect ALL cables to the computer.
Shut the computer down for at least 5 minutes.
Reattach cables only to the external drive and reboot.
If the drive mounts hook up any other cables.
If you have a dual firewire/USB external try using a different port.
Good Luck on fixing this heartwrenching disaster.

"GET DATA BACK" I use this product all the time and have had pretty good luck, though as Dan says above you will need a sata to usb cable.
you might even get away with just using the cable connected to a good working computer but if there is some drive failure or corrupt files Get DATA Back is the way to go
