I am going on a photography trip to Iceland in October and have been advised to bring a tripod. I have never used one and don't know what to buy. Any suggestions for a light portable easy to use tripod please.

The Gitzo Traveller is superb but rather expensive so budget is always the limiting factor of weight and convenience over cost

Picking a tripod is about balancing good stability and light weight within your budget.
I often use a Benro BEA358M8 A-358M8 Aluminum Tripod for heavy lenses. I have traveled with it a lot, but it is a little heavy. It’s very solid.
My wife has a Benro BEA0580F A0580F that we use for lighter work and video.
Both are holding up after years of active use and are pretty inexpensive.
