I am green as green can be..however, I have a digital SLR and Photoshop6. Is there a way I can turn

We are making some keepsakes for our family. One family member has requested her photos in black and white. I am willing to buy special software if needed.

    Photoshop should give you the option to convert the image "mode" grayscale (menu > image > mode > greyscale), then you can mess with contrast and levels to punch up the edges a little more.

    Add a channel mixer adjustment layer then check the monochrome box and play with the sliders to your taste.

    it's fabulous.
    try orton, lomo and other creative techniques not to mention all the latest fun and techniques. you can buy a one year membership for 30, I have it and use all of the options, including making books, borders, frames, etc. try it out.

    another smart move would be to go to http://www.picnik.com everything you need to do some fun things with your images.....and easier than the learning curve with photoshop...check it out! also gimp is very popular..just look them up in google! Many jpg users use these programs.....free !
