Defining "Beauty Redefined"

Posted by Derek Powazek on 19 February 2007.

We've gotten a lot of questions about our latest theme, Beauty Redefined, so here are a few hints.

1. Just because the theme is sponsored by SuicideGirls doesn't mean we want naughty nudie pics. (Just like the Elegance theme didn't require photos of clear plastic.) We're okay with some artful nudity, but please, a little goes a long way. Be subtle.

2. There are two parts to this theme. The "beauty" part means your subject should embody your take on beauty. The "redefined" part means you should reinterpret traditional notions of beauty. Turn it on its head! Make a comment about beauty. Surprise us.

3. Here's a short list of what we're not looking for: an audition for SuicideGirls, voyeur shots of girls on the beach, mannequins and other things that aren't people. Elegance was about beauty in place. This theme is about beauty personified.

We give you these hints not to make anyone feel bad, but to give some guidance to the submitters who really want to get published. Got more questions? Ask away.
