The United States' political landscape has been ablaze this week with emotion, stunning victories, and what some might call equally stunning defeats. The showdown between senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama looks like it will officially close on Saturday, when Clinton plans to announce that she will no longer seek out the Democratic nomination for U.S. President. Of course, this is good news for Obama, who has already begun restructuring his campaign to go head-to-head with Senator John McCain. Really, this stands to be possibly the most thrilling presidential campaign this country has ever seen. It's bound to get dirty, for sure, but it also holds promise to inspire hope, especially hope in democracy. That's why we've selected Democracy as our next theme. We want our JPG members to explore the concept of democracy; what it means, represents, and how it works.
While we expect many of you to submit photos speaking to the campaign we just mentioned (and we certainly want those), we'd like you to also remember that democracy means all sorts of things. Sweeping political change, fighting for workplace rights, and even deciding what the office will order for lunch, all speak to the many layers and notions of democracy.
