Stories are Worth 1000 Words, Too!

While JPG is no Writer's Digest, we do enjoy a good story behind a photographic series. You're hopefully aware that we have a story submission process just as we do for photos. Stories are published in every issue, chosen from our 10 story types. You can even write a personal post, which attaches itself to your profile page. It works like your own JPG blog, although we only publish from the other story types. The instructions for each story type are listed on the submissions page; they each have different requirements.
Here are a few stories I have enjoyed. They do a great job combining photos with words, and the content is plenty interesting:

Boxheads, a Photo Essay by Zack Huggins
"These ridiculous faces that look so poorly-made take me forever to get right. The eyebrows are the hardest. The eyebrows are always the hardest."

Sprocketography, a How To by Rob Turner
"The main idea for sprocket hole photography is to load a normal 35mm film into a camera designed for 120 roll film."

Passenger Seat, a Feature by Liz Kaufman
"I've found it difficult not having a car in college...riding in the passenger seat...through neighborhoods and business districts without being able to drop and roll out of the car and photograph the many faces and strange subtleties we passed."

A Photo a Day, a Project by Lis Bokt
"These self portraits...are all 'from the floor'....I have a small tabletop tripod that I've been using, though depending on the day and the situation they are sometimes hand-held, or the camera is set on a table, chair or even a hat-box."
