Photo Challenge: Homage to Cinema

Posted by Lauren Sloss on 24 September 2008.

As my wonderful predecessor Adam Hurly once wrote, "I LOVE MOVIES!" I have to agree. Maybe it's a JPG intern thing, but I really, really love movies. It could be because my mom insisted we have our own Alfred Hitchcock movie festival when I was nine, or perhaps it's because I watched Father of the Bride every day for a year when I was six, but good film is without a doubt one of my favorite things, ever.

So, I'm pretty psyched about this new photo challenge, an Homage to Cinema. Film and photography are inextricably linked; the perfect shot, the truly memorable film moments are photographic in their clarity.

Our guest editors for this challenge are Michael Goi, Vice President of the American Society of Cinematographers, and Graham Leggat, Director of the San Francisco Film Society. They're looking for photos that best capture memorable moments in classic and contemporary cinema, so be sure to specify what film you're commemorating!

Special thanks to JPG Member Polly Cole for connecting us to Michel Goi, and Adam Hurly for hooking us up with Graham Leggat.

Can't wait for your photos. Here's to looking at you, kid.

In case you missed it: Vanity Fair did an homage to Hitchcock in their March 2008 issue. We were inspired, to say the least.
