Photo Challenge: Dashboard
Posted by Lauren Sloss on 21 October 2008.
The day I got my driver's license was probably one of the best days, ever. It was my 16th birthday, I passed with flying colors, and as I tore (ok, drove carefully and at the speed limit) out of the DMV, "I'm Free" by The Who came on the radio by chance. I WAS free, and proceeded to drive like a bat out of hell for the next year (don't tell my mom!).
The car of my 16-year-old glee was a '94 volvo station wagon I'd named Rico Suave (and yes, I referred to him as Rico. My current car is named Ferdinand. What, don't you name your cars?). I'd hung shells and a bright pink lei from the rearview mirror, despite my mother's certainty that I'd be unable to see, ever, and would crash into everything. I had a parking sticker from a concert that was at least 3 years old, and inevitably multiple CDs perched above the passenger seat glove compartment. The speedometer continually revealed my lead foot. The windshield was filthy. Messy, absurd, yet somehow functional - Rico's dashboard was an excellent illustration of my high school life.
For our newest photo challenge, we want photos of dashboards - show us what your car has to say about you. Plastic Jesus? Immaculately clean? Politician bobbly-head? Give us the view from the front seat - the ultimate view of freedom, if you ask me. Unless you're stuck in traffic, of course.
Here are some great dashboard shots to get you started.
