Photo Challenge: Leaf in Hand

Posted by Lauren Sloss on 8 October 2008.

People always diss California for our lack of seasons. "How can you live in a place with no fall, where the leaves don't change color?" Maybe we don't have the technicolor trees found in New England, but we do have fall, and it is my absolute favorite season. There's something in the air when summer finally ends - an energy, an electricity, an anticipatory promise of things happening. Maybe its just intrinsic to the air getting crisper and the days getting shorter.

But, sentimental ravings about the qualities of fall-time aside, leaves DO change colors here. And in honor of the leaves (of California, and everywhere else), we've opened a new photo challenge: Leaf in Hand, the goal of which is to create a glorious montage of fall foliage, JUST fall foliage.

We're getting very specific with this challenge. Keep in mind the Delectable Egg Project; we've asked for photos of the same same subject, and the creativity has been astounding. So, for this photo challenge, take a photo of a leaf - ONE leaf - in your hand. That's it. I can only begin to imagine the variety of leaves, hands, angles, everything! that we're going to see. So get to work, JPG!

JPG staffers Laura and Christi have gotten us started; their photos are great examples of what we're looking for.

If this isn't exciting enough, we're extending our Homage to Cinema by one more week. We're loving your shots capturing classic scenes from timeless films, so keep them coming!
