If you’ve traveled across the length and breadth of India, you may have seen many Sunset Points in your lifetime. Even if you’re a movie lover, you might have noticed how every movie shot on a hill station always has a sunset point that is supposed to be the most beautiful place in town. There’s something very humbling about a sunset. Sunset is the daily disappearance of the Sun below the horizon, as a result of Earth’s rotation. Sunset has a magic beyond the scientific fact of the sun disappearing behind the horizon and the atmosphere playing up the colours as the earth turns. Memories, farewells and romance cloud your thoughts. And like romance, there’s more to it than just science and scattering air molecules.
Mahatma Gandhi once said, ‘When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator.’
As I have recently visited Andaman Islands, in my view photographing sunset in Andaman will give you wonderful experience. One should have patience to achieve the best shot of Horizon. Andamans is abundant with places that give you awesome views of the sunrise and the sunset. But Chidiyatapu and Havlock Island are still different. If you ask me which place gives the best sunset view in Andaman Islands, surely I would say it is Chidiyatapu in Port Blair ! Chidiyatapu, Port Blair is located at one corner of Port Blair and gives a stunning sunset view. While in many islands, you can view sunsets across the vast ocean, in Chidiyatapu, the sun actually sinks inside the sea but behind a small hill, and that is what makes the view unique. The best time to visit is of course in summers as that is when you have clear sky and a lovely myriad of sunset colors in the sky. During rainy season, there is hardly any view as the sky is grey and covered with clouds. I am fortunate to visit just before rainy season and could capture the shots.
At last, I thank all the JPGers to encourage me to write a story on sunset of Andaman
