Sweden's Queen Silvia Injured In New York By Paparazzo

It's hard out there for a pimp Queen! The lovely Queen Silvia of Sweden (wife of King Carl XVI Gustaf) was in New York yesterday supporting her charity World Childhood Foundation when she was "stalked" by a Swedish photographer. Her attempts to get away from him led to a nasty fall in which she injured her wrist and foot. Reports the breathless NY Post:

"It's not a question of her simply wanting to avoid being photographed. It's more akin to stalking," a Royal Court spokesman told the Expressen newspaper.

Photographs of her using a cane and wearing a brace were published in the Swedish media Wednesday.

In a statement reported by the Swedish TT news agency, the Royal Court said the photographer refused to acknowledge the Queen's desire for privacy and hung around the entrance to the store.

Queen Silvia opted to leave the Madison Avenue store through a side door, and walked briskly to her car to avoid the photographer who chased after her.

"Unfortunately, the Queen then fell, injuring both her foot and wrist," the statement said.

As usual, shopping in New York is a contact sport. Photo via.
