I just bought my first DSLR at the beginning of this month (June '09). It's the Canon Rebel Tsi with the basic 18-55 lens that's included. I've also recently purchased a macro and long range lens.

I don't have any artistic training or education though I did take an intro photography class at the local community college. I'm a software guy with an education in engineering. Doing photography balances what I do the rest of the week at work.
