Over Consumption With Mass Production
.............................................
We as Americans are quickly becoming distant from the nutrient rich foods that our bodies need, and with this, we are facing a rapid decline of physical and mental life.
Today our grocery stores are filled to the brim with a plethora of biologically engineered and/or altered foods. Apples that only look ruby red because red dye is added to their skin, chicken breasts bigger than your fist due to the steroid supplements added to their feed to produce larger chickens in a quicker manner, and tomatoes that have the extraordinary ability to fall out of your car window and escape without a scratch. Also, shelf life is extended three to five times longer due to the over abundance of preservatives. This is leading to over consumption of edible foods, but with a major draw back: vitamins found in food are becoming unsubstantial, meaning people have to consume more to try to obtain the elements needed for a "healthy" diet.
The over consumption of food in the United States is definitely a double edge sword. While having a greater concentration of food than an other country in the world, we are slowly debilitating our bodies into a state of urgency. We must eat to sustain life but the question is, what are we eating?
