For a few nights, this mid-autumn dancer was my beloved.

She melted my heart; she weakened my knees; I was enchanted. Charmed.

I kept going back to her performance by the Singapore River, with my camera and telephoto zoom lens, to try capture as many portraits of her as I could.

I was rewarded with seven beautiful images, which I shall always cherish.

In the Top 10 out of 15,000 photo essay.

Also in the Seven portraits of a Mid-Autumn Dancer photo essay.

    Thanks Laura, for the compliment.
I ought to mention, however, that the image is presented without cropping - but with some Lightroom adjustments to soften the harsh stage lights and hide her acne ;-)

It is indeed a nice photo series --with well-taken note. But, a closer look will show that the pictures are a bit grainy here and there. I hope it's only because of the resizing process.
Looking forward to seeing the photos in clearer, crispier version.

  • Richard Seah

Richard Seah said (19 Sep 2008):

Hi Tomi. Thanks for the compliment. The graininess is probably due to high ISO 2000. Photos were taken hand held. If using tripod, photos might have been clearer and more crispy, but I would not have the compositions that I achieved.
Also in some images, especially this one, I reduced the clarity to -100 (on Lightroom 2.0) to "smoothen" the acne on her forehead and also to counter the harsh stage lighting.
Images were taken with Fuji S5Pro which is rated 12 megapixels but is considered "2 x 6" megapixels, as it has 6 million PAIRS of pixels. This could also account for the image being not crispy.
