Those ARE people eaters!! Escalators scare the bijezus outa me! I'm always scared it'll suck my shoes laces and foot up. LOL. But, this is a different, fresh shot Peggy. Good work yet again!!

voted! love the softness on the sides and the colors!
-
peggy gardner said (15 Oct 2008):
this long exposure pans forward as I am moving at the same rate giving the softness - it's actually kind of a movie clip stuck on one frame. camera hanging around my neck as it rises above the bowels of the metro station....
natural golden late afternoon sunlight is the primary light source.....warming up the steely colored beast.....
actually quite a rarity to be on a dc metro escalator that moves !!! -

but why people eaters?
-
peggy gardner said (18 Oct 2008):
they are moving jagged metal jaws with teeth and the technology is so outdated. the "teeth" should just drop through the steps, not scissor to a strip at the end that a lot of people stumble on...plus imaging falling off a step and tumbling into a blender....
in the dc metro system, I think one out of three don't work or are "jammed" up with things people drop that get eaten....it's been like that forever...
I hate them.
I also hate the open rail exposed and no guard rails....not all parents are watchful....they too could have disappearing rails that drop.....
maybe I'm crazy....well...nevermind... -

I saw a show on this recently-- the teech were added because when they were flat, too many people's feet/ shoelaces/ children were getting sucked in, and the teeth are meant to deflect them!
