There were two lightning storms occuring the night I took this picture. One framed in this photo and the other just off the frame to the right. I composed a shot for one storm, but the other storm would act up. Then I composed for the other storm and the first would strike several times in a row. In an entire roll of film, this is the only shot where lightning flashed within the frame.

I heard about a lightning photo technique a few years back. Set your shutter to hold open indefinitely then use a black spray-painted piece of cardboard to uncover and cover again the lens end when lightning strikes. Never actually tried it but it might be helpful to you.
