In my mind, this is the image from your essay that really uses the tension between fantasy and reality for effect. People often speak of how fiction can enable us to discuss social realities in a way that feels less threatening, and that fantastical fiction makes it even easier. For example, look at how The Simpsons can raise edgy topics without the hue and cry that would accompany a live action show doing the same. This image does that... it invited me to take a long look at the callous way we city dwellers treat each other. And although you may have set out to create for the gallery, maybe this image has a future life with an organization that seeks to address social justice. And please do not take the previous comment as a judgement that the image is in any way not good enough for the gallery. In my mind using photography for social justice is actually a higher calling.
