Beautiful snake [yes, I like them] that looks very much on the move! Looks like a shadow might have been cast by a garage or driveway light? Judging by his mid-section, I'd say you have 1 less mouse in the vicinity of your home?

Great capture of a dangerous creature. I hope your zoom was working overtime, Renee. There was no place to comment on the other photo, but it was even a better angle.

This is excellent ...Snakes are difficult to photograph as they like slither around as I experienced with the pine snake that I shot a picture of for the theme creepy. ..This is very sharp and will give you a vote!

I guess there's times when a great photographer has to lay their life on the line for a shot. That's why I'll always be a hack! Great photo....voted yeah

I have a similar dilemma in classroom critiques as I do when I see a photograph on JPG and want to make a comment. A lot of people say really nice things about a piece and forget that a critique is supposed to be about constructive criticism.
I really don't know why this is a "Hot Photo"... Not only is it blatantly clear that this photo is NOT shot from the hip, but it's more of a compelling subject matter rather than a good composition. -
Renee said (16 Nov 2008):
Margaret, thank you for your comments and critique. Please allow me to clarify a few things...First this photo does meet the criteria for the theme in that I wasn't looking through my view finder when this was taken. I was watching the snake because it was moving towards me. Secondly, the composition is what it is...it was the middle of the night and the only light was from car headlights. Again, thanks for your comments.

cool shot. I'm not sure I'd be looking through the viewfinder at a rattler if it was close and moving.
