Hope the pollen grains come out. I think this may be a small member of the wasp species (Scolia) but there are wild bees of many kinds.

I went for my walk today and to my horror, the county had mowed so close, the roadsides are down to dirt.

All the Spanish Needles are gone and the small asters, etc. Everything. Denuded.

I was wondering why only a few butterflies appeared today. There's nothing for them to eat, and nothing now for the hummingbird stragglers.

(Except in my yard, which is never mowed, and only the Long tailed skippers were there today, and not many of those.)
