Shichi no Una
The outer courtyard at Shuri Castle in Okinawa. It was here that diginitaries conducting business first stated their business before being granted an audience with the King or one of his ministers. Since the inner courtyard or Una was largely for ceremonial functions, the outer courtyard also served as a staging area for major events. Most recently in 2000, the members of the G8 held a summit meeting here at the castle. The U.S. was represented by President Clinton and his daughter Chelsea. Japanese Prime Minister Obuchi who worked so hard and lobbied for the events to be held in Okinawa died a few months prior. His successor, Prime Minister Mori represented Japan.
