Bringing home the shopping... Castle Street army checkpoint, Belfast, 1985. (Scanned slide). I plucked up the courage to ask the British soldier permission to take his picture: Permission granted provided that his face could not be seen.

    I find it disturbing to see people doing everyday things under these circumstances, what impact did it have on children, especially having homes raided and seeing parents beaten.. this is why I find it hard to judge people and that goes for both sides..

    The picture provides me with an instant, up-close 'taste' of this otherwise distant (in space and time) situation. Very emotional!
