Saved by Unesco, at a huge cost of millions, this great temple of Ramses the Great was saved from the rising waters of the Nile when the Aswan dam was built. This attraction in Egypt is probably second only to the great pyramids and the sphinx.
In the Egypt--Land of mystery! photo essay.

"..second only to the great pyramids and the sphinx." --no wonder! Look at this, will ya! Gorgeous take, Nancy!! With exception to the sky, this almost looks like a sepia, and I can imagine what a great print this would make matted & framed!!

Fabulous image!! I am so glad it was saved. Is that pieces of the broken pharoh on the ground?

When they rebuilt the temple and statues, they decided to leave the broken body of Ramsses just as it had been discovered. I have the photo submitted for the "out of place" theme, as that is the only statue which is not whole.

It is an incredible wonder how the ancient egytians built such great monuments that really have stood a good test of time
