Women from the Kayan tribe wear neck rings or coils made of brass that are placed around the neck. The coils are first applied when the girls are six years old, and the coil is replaced with longer coils as the weight of the brass pushes down the collar bone and compresses the rib cage (approximately once a year till the age of sixteen). This results in the appearance of a very long neck.
