This photo was taken in Holyoke, MA along the canals, which once had dozens of bustling mills. These now defunct mills employed a great number of the city residents, many of them now unemployed. It was raining when I shot this photo and I think of the rain droplets as tears because these buildings along with many other beautiful structures are being torn down to make room for the new. Unfortunately, the new often lack the character and beauty of those built in earlier centuries.
