This is an experiment with a different lens that I used
from my manual Nikon film camera. It is a Spiratone 1:8 f=500mm mirror lens. I wanted to see how it would work with my Nikon D 40X Camera. it was overcast outside and it would be interesting to shoot this again on a brighter day.

Thank you all for your appreciated comments..In answer to your question, Michael B. In the winter the male loses the bright yellow and looks much like the color of the female so it could either.

Very nice photo, Andrea. I love the finches. They are away now, but they return in force in February and fight over our bird feeders.
