Battleship Island

My first encounter with Hashima, 5 months before I would actually step foot onto the concrete jungle. One can understand quite well why the nickname Gunkanjima or "Battleship Island" is more prominent. It is said that during WWII, the island was actually fired on by US submarines because of its menacing silhouette.

In the Ghosts of Gunkanjima photo essay.
