Living in the suburbs of Philadelphia as a kid, the Alabama Hills were in another world. Many westerns were filmed in the Hills, beneath the grandeur of Mt. Whitney, and many TV heroes made their film debut there.
Those heroes captured the hearts of many, but if their masks were lifted for all to see, our Dads, Uncles, Grandfathers, Teachers, and Friends would be revealed. The TV hero was an embodiment of the real heroes in our daily lives.
Now I am happy to be able to visit the Alabama Hills, camera in hand, understanding that the heroes of the past helped me to appreciate the beauty of the present.

nicely said and beautifully presented. very true words expressed here. the day of the hero, seems to have all but disappeared... lives were simpler, i think, when the lone ranger rode the plains...
