The sacred tree, the sacred stone are not adored as stone or tree; they are worshipped precisely because they are hierophanies,
because they show something that is no longer stone or tree but sacred,
the ganz andere or 'wholly other.'

What a wonderful photograph. Presented in such a way to give us a sense of the spiritual. I too, see the faces of time, in the tree. I can almost hear/feel its sense of being, an Elder, as you so aptly named it. Mediation in its presence could only elevate the soul. I think your presentation in sepia enhances its agelessness and universality. Well done, Nelson. This deserves my vote!
