I really love these portraits. It would be interesting to read a little bit more about each of the families. The children are so clearly molded in the image of the fathers in each case, and because of that it would be fascinating to know more about their backgrounds.

Laura, thank you for your suggestion. I think you have a good point. Unfortunately, I do not know all of the families tht well, and several of the portraits were made several years ago when I was living in NM, so I do not really have that much information about them. In addition, I have long believed that with portraits of non-famous subjects like these, who they really are is not so important. I think viewers should be allowed for themselves to decide who these people are and what their relationships are like. It is the difference between my telling you a story and your creating your own story. The story you tell may not be true to the exact facts, but it will have the kind of truth you find in myths (which is perhaps greater and more valid). I hope this does not sound too cerebral or far out. Please feel free to respond if you do not agree with me. Thanks again.

I definitely see your point and agree. These images do get your imagination stirring as to the back story of each group, but I can see the strength in leaving it at that. I think it's my own curiousity getting the best of me. :)

I really like this series of images.
I have a really complicated relationship with both my parents, and though I talked about my mom for years in therapy, I'm just starting to sort of deal with the idea of my dad being a very significant person in my life.
I think there's so much out there both as art and books and researches about motherhood, but there is a lot less about fatherhood. It's a very interesting topic. -

love the light, expressions ... I can't help it to be reminded of John Malkovich, though :)

One of the finest portraits I've seen in a while. Apart from the fashion - which creates a timeless feel - and their brilliant expressions as they gaze intently into your lens, what really makes this photo, for me, is the hands. Really lovely work.

Excellent portrait - there is a sterness and an intimacy, at the same time. Like you said.....perhaps, an intrusion!
