There is an elegance about machinery like this that neither time nor wear can completely destroy. Forged long before computers took over such work, this compressor represents the handiwork of brilliant craftsmen long gone from America. At one time, it powered one of the busiest shipyards in California. More recently, it was relegated to serving in the climax of an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie. Today, it is simply forgotten.
