Berlin, August 2005: I caught the reflection of the Berliner Dom in the bronze windows of the Palast der Republik. And then the irony struck me: Here was the Berliner Dom, a gorgeous 100 year old structure that survived a war, was rebuilt to regain it's former glory, being reflected in the windows of the Palast der Republik: a building barely over 30 years old, is a symbol of a government that couldn't survive 40 years and no longer exists, and that has now been torn down.
