Q: I am really into my wildlife photography but cannot afford a super zoom lens, I have a 300mm and am considering a teleconvertor. Has anybody had a experience with these and would you recommend them?

A: Do you know?

With a view of English Harbor in the foreground, and Falmouth Harbor in the distance, this image was taken from Shirley Heights on December 28, 2008. When I was first here on May 15, 1977 there were no boats anchored in this outer bay of English Harbor. I snorkeled the bay from one end to the other diving through massive schools of juvenile fish that swallowed my path and closed behind me as I headed to the bottom of the shallow bay. Such intimate experiences with nature change lives. I have come back again and again. Admiral Nelson in 1784 probably had the same view from Shirley Heights and it remains a great place to visit to this day. Each time to come back, armed with these memories, it is like a fairy tale to me. Albeit with a lot more people! (three shots, Canon 5D Mark II, 24-105mm at 24mm, ISO 320, f/4.5, blended in Photomatix, then tweaked in Lightroom 2.2)
