I shot this picture several years ago with a film camera. There was no blood shed. Our dog will be 15 in April. The possum did not play dead as they usually do...She was a young possum and she sauntered away after hissing and growling at the dog. The ground was pure ice from a sleet storm that we had and I literally had to lie down flat on the ground
to take this picture as I could not stand on my feet from the time I went outside the door until I came back in. Koki, our dog scooted out the door with me before I could stop her. She was 2 years old at the time and very curious but she knew better than to attack the possum...Would I do this again? I don't think I would chance it.

This is a WOWser, Andrea!! All the action clearly defined against a perfect white background-- VERY neat shot!! It appears the possum is missing the very tip of its tail... who knows how that happened!! Brave youg dog... brave young photographer!! KUDOS.. and thanks for posting!!

This is a real action packed, story telling photo. Full of adventure and excitement for all 3 involved parties. Your dog is smarter than mine. When mine was about 2, he jumped a possum in the back yard, and the possum kicked his backside. Our dog wound up at the vet on antibiotics. Since then he leaves a respectable distance between himself and the possum, and just barks his silly head off while the possum hisses and growls.

I agree that this is a wonderful action shot. What a fantastic opportunity to see and photograph this between the dog and the possum! I can just imagine you laying flat on the ground to capture the photo : ) Photographers will do most anything to get the photo!

Oh my, that thing looks mean! My dog caught a possum a month or so ago and i thought he'd killed it, but when i went back to check on it, it was gone! They really do play dead convincingly! (except this one obviously!)

Oh yea, I am familiar with the opposum! That hissing sound makes my skin crawl. This is a great shot if a drama unfolding right in your own backyard.

I like possums. My cats tolerate them. This is a neat picture. The possums have a LARGE set of teeth. Glad the dog did not fight the possum. I like the pix. I had some visit me last summer.
