Q: Do you still have a magazine?

A: Do you know?

Sometimes, when my children are tucked into bed and my hubby nods off on the couch-I go into my closet and take out a brand new pair of pointe shoes.
I snip the ribbons off and get out my needle and white dental floss, as regular thread isn't strong enough.
I've had these "brand new" pointe shoes for over two years now and they have never been used.
After I'm done sewing them, I'm ready to try them on but first I like to break them in a bit first. Sometimes I'll put them in the doorframe and close the door on them gently, to make them mold right or sometimes I'll give them a few whacks with the hammer. That works too.
During this process I always think of one of my old dance teachers and what she used to tell us in pointe class.
She used to say for us to never go too long without wearing your pointe shoes, wether you are injured or for whatever reason to always remember your artistry by always making sure your feet don't "soften" up..It took a lot of sacrifices to "build up" your feet...
We used to kind of giggle a little when we heard that, but you never think of when it could be your time to retire. But, during these quiet nights I have alone with my pointe shoes and my ugly feet, I like to remember her and think of how right she was.

nicely done - the soft muted tones work well, and the black background is perfect. Well composed, as well - 2 thumbs (toes??) up!
