This photo describes the USA perfectly!

Excellent. The powerlines really make this composition work so well. The small shadowy human form is like a punctuation mark that brings it all together. And obviously the Holiday INN sign with God Bless America is what really makes this picture speak. Great job!

Francesco, Sonia, Don: thank you! I could not resist the Holiday Inn sign with the added message and was overjoyed that I managed to get my act together and press the shutter before the human figure disappeared. It was a real "pea-souper" that day, which seemed like the ideal kind of atmosphere for this shot.

i remember this photo when i joined JPG and made it a favorite- it still is!
-
Lise Utne said (7 Jan 2010):
Thanks, Didi! It's in the book compiled by Nimmo last year, and I've always been happy with it myself. It was a very bleak and foggy day which seemed to fit the general mood of the time.
