i was commenting on a friend's photo of a bowl filled with noodles. my emphasis was that food photos can be very well-handled by 50mm prime lenses :) and to prove my point, i ended up experimenting a little with these goblets in my kitchen :)
i was given death threats by my wife, who said that she'd kill me if any of the goblets broke :) well, the good news is, i'm still here :)
i used Kelvin (k) white balance and made its temperature very cool :)
next, i chose monochrome mode and that, with a blue tint :)
the light behind the goblets is my SB900 flash fired at the wall :) it was in REMOTE mode and the light from the top of the goblets is a thin white tubelight :) to balance things, sort of :)
tweaked the contrast in post-processing using Capture NX2 :) and here it is :) origina composition, no fancy stuff :)
shot using a manual focus 50mm lens :) with nikon SB900 flash :) nikon D3 :)

Would be perfect if the ever so slight pin cushioning were fixed.

yes sir mr Bob Douglas, there is pincushion, but more importantly, the left most goblet is placed a bit tilted by default :)
