The "gingerbread" cottages in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard are known for their Hansel and Gretel style. (Martha's Vineyard is an island off the coast of Massachusetts.)
The cottages replaced the tents used in the 19th century Methodist movement. They became summer retreats as the small wooden buildings expanded from the campground to a circular pattern around a central meeting area. A Community Ctr. is still in use today.
The cottages survive as historic landmarks and very expensive real estate. This small retreat was all decked out for a candlelight weekend.

Thanks for the youtube link, Rob. I didn't know that Frankie Avalon had ever recorded that song. Must be late 50's?
