Part of a series of UVIR landscapes. I took this one with my Fuji IS-1 using the B+W 403 filter.
The bridge shown crosses the Pecos River. It has been undergoing much needed repairs during the last few years.
Thanks for the prop and question. Fuji actually manufactures the IS-1 without an internal hot mirror, instead they put in a piece of clear glass. So the camera can record IR (and some UV) as well as visible light. Because the internal filter is clear glass, I still have to use an IR pass filter (ie Hoya R72 or B+W 403) but I can do so without having to significantly slow the shutter speed or use a tripod in most instances. Also, the B+W 403 filter (used for this shot) passes both IR and UV (but block the visible spectrum). I've found that the images from this filter are a bit easier to process in channel mixer than the monochromes that come from using the Hoya R72. I can also get the false color IR images with an R72 by using a tripod and taking a multi-exposure shot (one vis-spec one IR with the R72 etc). These are later assigned to channels in Adobe. I have heard that there is a way to get the false colors without doing a multi-exposure composite. I have experimented but have only achieved mixed results and the few pleasing false colors took a lot of processing so if anyone out there knows any alternative methods other than those listed above, I would definately like to hear from you!
Thanks
