This was on a night when Venus was the closest to the moon, so while on our way up to Moscow, ID, we made sure to get out and take a few shots. I only own a small digital camera, so the zoom isn't particularly good, but I managed to get a few ok shots.
This photo was taken on the top of Lewiston hill at one of the many roads that branch off of the main high way coming from Lewiston.

Really nice colors...(((but don't tell anyone)))...that's not Venus. You caught Jupiter...

Actually, it was Venus... That was the reason we were up on the top of Lewiston hill taking photos. It was in the news paper that Venus was closest to the moon that night.

I think the news was little off that night...
The sun has already set in your photo...and Venus is a lot closer to the sun so it would be much lower in the sky near the horizon. I should know, that's me with my big toy. (fav it) *wink*

It was the moon - Venus convergence, Feb. 27, 2009.
Thanks. My eyes just looked greener because of the towel that was near my eyes at the time. -

Beautiful image! I always watch both Venus and Mars (at different times of course) as they approach the moon then pass on to the other side. It's very interesting to see the distance change each night...also fun to watch the moon 3 days before full until 3 or more days after. The location and time difference of the rise is interesting. Nice shot!
