Q: uplaoding a Tiff photo

A: Do you know?

Entering the courtyard of the 14th century Orsini Palace in the Tuscan hill town of Pitigliano, we were immediately drawn to the golden retriever lying on the stoop of the palace. We had no idea who this handsome fellow belonged to or what his name was, but he acted as pleased to see us as we were him.

Because of the amount of moving Fred (my husband) and I do overseas and never knowing what kind of housing we’re going to have wherever we move to, having a pet is out of the question. We’ve discovered during this time living in Italy the pleasure of interacting with cats and dogs we run into on the streets of Italian villages and cities. Of course there has to be a degree of caution involved, but it doesn’t require a sixth sense to determine whether or not a cat or dog we’ve encountered is friendly or at least receptive to a bit of attention from strangers.

At the courtyard within Pitigliano’s Palazzo Orsini, Fred and the golden retriever (I named Orsini) we met there became instant buddies. And I had fun photographing them and taking some solo portraits of Orsini.

Later, we discovered Orsini had patiently waited outside of the palazzo while his owners toured the palace. If our circumstances were different and his owners were willing, we would have gladly taken Orsini home with us.

Note: Sorry about having to upload this theme pic early. Had to because of time difference between Italy and US.

In the Orsini photo essay.

A very beautiful dog!! Wonderful capture! You should get a yorkie. They love to travel, don't shed, and will fill in your purse. LOL.

Regenia is right about small dogs; but my favorite dog we have had was a golden. There is not room here to list their virtues, but the welcoming attitude you received is characteristic of their breed. What a beautiful boy Orsini is! You captured his inner beauty as well as his physical beauty. A great portrait of a great dog.

Deb, it's one of those "good news-bad news" situations for you, I'm afraid! The bad news is that the "Shoot Your Pet" committee had to penalize you 3 big points for posting early!! [Living in Italy is NO excuse!!] The good news is that the photos and essay are SO good, you scored 13 out of a possible 10... so deducting the penalty still leaves you with a perfect 10 !!! NICE GOING!!!
