I am a vampire. My alabaster skin burns quickly beneath a Caribbean sun. The long hours between meetings would often be spent in the shade, waiting on sun-down. Here, in Martinique, I found that if one stares at a wall long enough it can anticipate the last light of day, or, that the wooden arm-rest of a chair meant to mimic the waves might instead become an elephant's trunk. Look closely, it is worn with age.
