I saw the creature hanging off the roof late night from the moon shining on it. It is a crane fly, much like a mosquito only larger. It doesn't bite thank goodness. It's not a macro, shot from 8ft. away with 300mm and manual focus. I did some cropping and also inverted the photo. I didn't notice the small piece of lint on my filter. I just kind of think this is cool.

Hi!
I just found this site while following a search for galley nipper after seeing a yacht named that. When I was a kid my grandad called this giant mosquito-looking bug a galley nipper and throughout my life no one has ever heard of that, when one comes flying around! I never knew that they were craneflys and it was fun to see that there really ARE other people that know them as galley nippers! They do look creepy, but grandad too said they eat mosquitos and don't bite. -
