The name "taro" is from Tahitian or other Polynesian languages; the plant is also called kalo (from Hawaiian) - taro was/is a staple for the Hawaiian people - this crop grows in a loi (like a rice paddy) -Waipio Valley - Hamakua Coast - Hawaii's Big Island - 5 February 2009
