Counting Dust Devils, "Early Season"

Counting Dust Devils: Early Season
They grow when fields are cleared in the heat, in turnrows where men stand searching the skies for rain
They are stamped into being by the suck of air left when bare feet leave the earth rising tiny at the heels of children
Children chase the big ones
wisps of swirling dust then grow into men who look skyward
They want to see if they can be lifted high from the fields, to see if there is strength enough to rise from that solid earth where they were planted and raised
