Lets hope it'll stay on. Some JPG Mag members are being dicks about compositing lately. Had an image removed myself bc of that.

David Mudkip said (15 Jun 2009):
Why does she have ammo belts for a magazine-fed weapon?
And why isn't she practicing proper trigger discipline? And why does she have 2 fingers on the trigger?
And her camo isn't issued by any military that I know of.
This picture confuses me :( -
Janet Lunn said (15 Jun 2009):
David: the picture confuses you because you don't have the capacity to understand the simplest things. Are you also confused that this is a princess and maybe the picture isn't actually taken in war time and maybe it was just a commentary. Are my words too big? Here, I'll speak your language...girl not real, go eat food, thinking will hurt your head.

What What said (16 Jun 2009):
As a good muslim, Jasmine would have an AK47 and bombs strapped around her instead of bullets.

Janet, I think your response to the quite amusing comment made by David Mudkip is a little out of proportion to remark made! You almost seem... angry.

I came to see this because I'd heard rumors about a photo online showing Jasmine "as a terrorist." Obviously, it was spread by people who had not seen the image themselves, or who do not have a grasp on conceptual thinking. She's obviously fighting in a war zone, not wearing a suicide belt to the market. I'd look at this and say she's being a good national leader protecting her war-torn country against malicious forces in person instead of sending soldiers out to die for her.

I have to go with Dave: Why is she wearing ammo belts? The M-16's not a belt fed weapon. Why two fingers on the trigger?
The other thought was, "Why isn't she wearing a helmet and body armor?" While practical, that would probably make her less recognizable as a Disney princess.
Sorry to zoom on the details. It's a nice piece of irony. -
Leigh said (21 Jun 2009):
In defense of David, even if he was trolling...
Janet, normally professional photographers using their images to make a statement put as much effort as possible into getting the details right.
Inconsistencies show the artist's ignorance about the subject, and take away from the message they are trying to make.
David makes a valid point. The inconsistent details make this, what could be one of the most powerful images in the series, weaker.
And your anger makes your point laughable. Your own issues show through too clearly. Maybe your blood glucose was low at the time? Go eat food. -

I always knew Jasmine would be one heck of a warrior.

Well, at least now she's more proportional than she used to be! Good job forcing concept to deal with reality.

Leigh and David:
Inconsistencies don't always show the artist's ignorance. Sometimes it's to make a point about something else.
Perhaps as a Princess, and very sheltered individual, Jasmine would not know how to propperly fire a gun. Thus the two fingers on the trigger. Perhaps she's not carrying amo for her own weapon but for a weapon at her destination... And of course her camo isn't issued by any military, it's conceptual image: Perhaps it's to portray her royalty, but it makes us connect her clothes with her being Jasmine. Otherwise she'd just be a hot girl in camo.
You can't criticize non-military artists of making mistakes in their portayal of how they see the world. Not everyone studies military weapons or knows how to use them. It's not common knowledge. And it's beside the main point.
Relax and enjoy the piece for what it is: thought provoking and commentary on today's modern women. It's to make you think, not to show acuracy. -
Hannah Rose said (28 Jun 2009):
Thought provoking?
It's just racism plain and simple.
Let's show the only non-white princess as violent, possibly a terrorist, definitely a fighter.
Oh and what what, you're being racist as well. -
Dina Goldstein said (28 Jun 2009):
Hanna Rose...your so far off.
She's a fighter, defending her country just as so many women today are sent to the front lines.
don't be a drama queen!

David Mudkip: Shut up. You just make yourself look stupid. You know, when I watch Alladdin, I get confused, because I've never seen a talking parrot before or a tiger-shaped sand cave that rises up out of the desert. I've also never seen a flying carpet and you'd never see an Arab princess walking around in such skimpy outfits.
Janet: loved your response :D
Leigh: This is not supposed to be an accurate photograph. It's purely conceptual, and I'm sure everyone has gotten the concept just fine. -
Allyson Fennell said (29 Jun 2009):
Another gorgeous picture, but I am unsure what it has to do with the story of Princess Jasmine, aside from her being from the Middle East. She was pampered and sheltered by a rich father. Having her watch the war from a tower window might be more fitting.
I don't know enough about weaponry to comment on that, but the image was clear to me! -
Rebekah Scott said (16 Jul 2009):
I don't think Hannah was being a drama queen. I think you two-stepped around an honest response there.

nushh said (20 Jul 2009):
Not a fitting ending? Not any less than the others, I guess. But I loved them, they're quite cruel.
At least Jasmine's better off than the others. Snow White and Rapunzel - now those are scary endings. -
Rob Greene said (6 Sep 2009):
I know I'm feeding the Trolls, but I want to defend the Military Accuracy of this picture. For the record, I'm a Cav Scout Leader in the US Army and have at least a little idea of what I'm talking about. It's true the M-16 is a magazine fed rifle and has no use for belts. However, US Army Infantry and Scout Platoons carry a large belt machine gun called the 240. The 240 is a crew operated weapon. One member of the crew is known as the "Ammo Bearer" and, you guessed it, carries belts of ammunition. The Ammo Bearer also carries an assault rifle or carbine for personal protection (in this case, the M-16).
Thus, Jasmine is the Ammo Bearer for a 240 Gunner who is simply off screen at the moment. =)
Love this entire series of pictures -
Jasmine Knox said (14 Sep 2009):
Hannah Rose: how about you think about where Jasmine was located in the story. Where did she live? What's going in a similar territory right now? Don't be so obnoxious.
Dina, I absolutely detested being called princess Jasmine as a kid...this photo makes me like the nickname. Nice work. I love this series. -
Shannon Burgess said (23 Sep 2009):
Everyone saying this is some sort of terrorist or racist message should look at the patch on her right leg (the one to the left of the photo): that's a US Army Special Forces patch. Which I'm sure the artist put there to dispel anyone thinking this had anything to do with terrorism rather than war itself.

This photo is a excellent piece of art, it has everyone talking, giving their interpretations, upsetting some, pleasing others.
great photo I say.
