This photo was taken a few days before she underwent surgery to have a golf ball sized tumor removed from the lower left side of her brain. She ended up losing hearing in her left ear but otherwise made a full recovery. According to Sue, one of the "best parts about only having one ear" is "if you lay on the good one sleeping is so easy"
