Within the main square of Calcata, an enchanting Italian medieval village atop a volcanic stump surrounded by dense forest. The Etruscan-style tufo thrones were done by Costantino Morosin, one of the 100 occupants of this town that's unlike any other in Italy in that all who live there are artists, bohemians, and aging hippies from around the world. They saved the town by squatting there in the 1960s and eventually buying the homes from the owners who'd left, because in 1930 the Italian government declared the town unsafe, saying the cliffs it sits upon were crumbling. Eventually the new artsy inhabitants convinced the government their earlier assessment was wrong.

In the Calcata photo essay.

They have tried, I think, to recreate the same architecture facade as in the other building. Doesn't quite come off, does it. You've captured a great juxtaposition. Old and the new.
