Q: Why does JPGMAG drag the competitions on so much.

A: Do you know?

Throughout centuries sun, rain, and wind have attacked these walls within the Italian village of Calcata (about 30 miles north of Rome). The town's aged old beauty, unique setting (atop a 150 foot volcanic stump surrounded by dense forest), and unique inhabitants and history, bring film makers, photographers, painters, and tourists from around the world. Fred and I happened upon this gem on our way to another town. We lucked out in that we arrived there when no other visitors were around (very unusual). The whole time I was there I couldn't stop taking pictures. I so fell in love with these beautiful old walls. The Etruscan-like thrones are recent additions and were sculpted out of tufo rock by a local sculptor.

In the Calcata photo essay.

I love weatherbeaten walls with peeling paint and worn stucco. Nature has been most unkind to them, but they become beautiful in a different way from Mother Nature's abuse. Excellent shot, Deb. One of my favorites.

I can see how you could come to love this ageless beauty Deb. Looking slightly abandoned, but still with warmth. Nice find.!
