The artsy inhabitants from around the world that squatted in the Italian medieval village of Calcata during the late 60's and early 70's cleaned up the abandoned town (government had condemned it in 1930's) and eventually bought up the homes and convinced the government that the volcanic stump on which the town sits is safe. Some of the new owners transformed caves there into subterranean homes.This lane leads to one of them.
