Karekare Distant
Panatahi Island sits sillouetted against the sunset on the vast beach at Karekare under stormy skies, North Island, New Zealand.
I've never been on a beach of this size before. The beach at Karekare literally disappears from view into the distance on a scale that takes my breath away. I'm also amazed by how flat it is, almost table top flat as I tripod around its surface, bubble level on camera constantly well, level. The rain moved in as the tide moved out to reveal even more of this vast beach. Heavy tropical rain that shifted through the sunset in waves and flurries. It was, of course, the only time on the trip I hadn't bothered to pack the waterproof cover for my camera and ending up shooting from under my jacket, getting wet, very wet.
